Fusion of strings vs. percolation and the transition to the quark gluon plasma

چکیده

In most of the models of hadronic collisions the number of exchanged colour strings grows with energy and atomic numbers of the projectile and target. At high string densities interaction between them becomes important, which should melt them into the quark-gluon plasma state in the end. It is shown that under certain reasonable assumptions about the the string interaction, a phase transition to the quark gluon plasma indeed takes place in the system of many colour strings. It may be of the first or second order, depending on the particular mechanism of the interaction. The critical string density is about unity in both cases. In the latter case the percolation of strings occurs above the critical density. The critical density may have been already reached in central Pb-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions

By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...

Signals of Phase Transition in Atmospheric Showers

We discuss collective effects like percolation, quark gluon plasma, or string fusion and their effect on the longitudinal development of high energy showers in air. It is shown that iron–air showers could develop more slowly than expected and produce the observed change in the slope of X max at the highest energies. It is expected that the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and the Large Ha...

Percolation approach to Quark Gluon Plasma and J / ψ suppression

It is shown that the critical threshold for percolation of the overlapping strings exchanged in heavy ion collisions can naturally explain the sharp strong suppresion of J/ψ shown by the experimental data on central Pb–Pb collisions, which does not occur in central O–U and S–U collisions.

Energy and System Size Dependence Study of the Percolation Phase Transition

Multiparticle production at high energies is described in terms of color strings stretched between the projectile and target. As the string density increases, overlap in the transverse plane leads to cluster formation. At some critical density a macroscopic cluster appears, spanning the entire system. This marks the percolation phase transition. Data from √ sNN = 200 GeV p+p, d+Au and Au+Au col...
